Time series database size options

Question by Hans Boef  (72) | Jan 28, 2015 at 03:22 AM ibmcloudtimeseries

Time series database has a maximum of 10 Gb. What if we need more? For 3000000 users we need about 4.4Gb/day. At this moment there is only a small plan of 10GB, will there be larger plans available soon and if not what are other options for use of this amounts of data?

What do you mean when you say you need about 4.4Gb/day? Are you saying you add that much data to the database everyday and do you really mean Gb rather than GB?

BTW, The only plan offered for Time Series gives you 10GB storage capacity rather than 10 Gb.

You may consider dashDB Enterprise Service which can hold up to 1 TB of data. For more info and pricing contact dashDB_Info@wwpdl.vnet.ibm.com

There may be multiple options available. We would like to know more details about your requirements and the specific use case. Please send an email to our enablement team at IDS-CEE@wwpdl.vnet.ibm.com

Hey guys, thanks for the answers.

We would like to store time series data from smart meters. According to the example in this IBM Time Series DB presentation link text on page 32 it shows that TS will save us a lot of storage space compared to normal DB's

In the example they talk about 3000000 meters produce less then 5 gigabytes of data in the time series database per day. If we would would like to store at least a year of data per meter, this would mean we can store roughly 16000 meters in per Time Series DB (if I calculated correctly). Does Dash DB offer time series? Or is pricing of Dash DB better, so the extra storage of 76% is not a problem?

Regards,

Randy
