IEC032I E37-04 and GIM43201T abend 0E37 when applying CICS PTF

Question

Why would I get z/OS message IEC032I E37-04 and SMP/E message GIM43201T with abend E37 when applying a CICS PTF? For example, when applying PTFs UI25321 UI25322 UI25323 UI25324 for CICS Transaction Server for z/OS (CICS TS) 5.1 Liberty APAR PI09433.

I receive these messages when the APPLY fails:

 IEC032I E37-04,IFG0554P,UI25321,CICS680,SMPWRK6,C85E,P1P503,  949  
 PTFB.CICS680.SMPWRK6  
 GIM43201T ** PROGRAM GIMSMP FAILED WITH A SYSTEM ABEND CODE OF 0E37

Answer

Messages IEC032I E37-04 and GIM43201T with abend code E37 and reason code 00000004, indicate that there is not enough space when running the SMP/E APPLY job.

To fix the problem, change the SMPWRK3 SPACE parameter to (CYL,(200,10,100)) and run the APPLY job again.
