Question & Answer
Question
What are the maintenance requirements for running IBM CL/SuperSession with z/OS V2.1 or other lower level releases of z/OS that are supported? I am upgrading or migrating to a new release of z/OS and need to know if there is any CL/SuperSession maintenance required. I would also like to know if there are any concerns that I should know abut if installing new hardware like EC12.
Answer
CL/SuperSession is compatible with z/OS V2R1. CL/SuperSession has been successfully run and tested with operating system z/OS 02.01.00 FMID HBB7790. Earlier supported z/OS releases are likewise compatible with CL/SuperSession.
CL/SuperSession is compatible with EC12 hardware. Hardware upgrades should be transparent to CL/SuperSession users.
The current recommended support level for CL/SuperSession is V1471028 or higher, with PTFs through UA63363 and UA63364 successfully applied.
If you are running with PASS TICKETS in an environment with dynamic APPLISTS, you may also wish to install the PTFs UA69031 and UA73134 for the sample userexits supplied.
The maintenance level V1471028 indicates that UA55480 has been installed, and can be verified in the TLVLOG with the following message:
KLGOP998 CL MAINTENANCE LEVEL V1471028 APPLIED
A CT/Engine message indicates that UA63363 and UA63364 have been applied:
KLVIN408 IBM OMEGAMON PLATFORM ENGINE VERSION147 READY
This message updates the previous CT/Engine message "KLVIN408 CANDLE ENGINE VERSION 147 READY".
The KLGOP998 message indicates the CL/SuperSession version 'V147', along with the YEAR '10' and WEEK '28' the fix was issued. For example, V1471321 for UA69031 indicates week 21 of 2013.
Note on z/OS V1R11 and higher releases: "TSO/E and z/OS Communications Server are planned to support a new option that enhances the LOGON RECONNECT function of TSO/E when using TN3270 connections. A new LOGONHERE parameter in parmlib member IKJTSOxx controls whether the RECONNECT option can be used to re-establish a TSO/E session unconditionally. Without this support, an attempt to reconnect is rejected if the system detects that the user ID is already in use, either on the same workstation or a different one. This new feature is intended to help preserve work that might be in progress under TSO/E sessions and avoid operator intervention."
TSO sessions using LOGONHERE(ON), the default in z/OS V1.11 systems and higher, must use the PASS or DEDICATE parameter on the virtual terminal pool unless your RECONNECT LIMIT is set to 0 (zero). TSO "RECONNECT" LOGONS in z/OS V1.11 and higher systems work the same as always when LOGONHERE(OFF) or the Reconnect Limit is set to zero. A Sample pool TSOLGNHR is provided for TSO sessions using LOGONHERE(ON) in member KLS$VSMS of the TLSCMDS library after PTF UA49555 is applied. When the virtual terminal pool does not specify PASS or DEDICATE, you might see message KLVVT251 SESSION SETUP ERROR: POOL(virtpool) APPLID(applid) PLU(TSO) REQSTAT(0805000B).
Please refer to the list of PTFs below. All prerequisite PTFs are required as well.
