Question & Answer
Question
The SMFCONFIG configuration statement in the TCPIP profile is set up for TYPE119 records. The Telnet server configuration file contains SMFINIT TYPE119 and SMFTERM TYPE119 statements. Why are subtype 23 records not being generated for the connections from remote clients?
Answer
SMF 119 subtype 23 records are only generated by the z/OS Telnet client. Remote connections to the TN3270E server will not generate subtype 23 records. Connections from remote clients to the TN3270E server are captured in subtype 21 records, which are generated when the SNA session starts and ends for a Telnet client.
