CICS DA 'Clone Region' right-click action grayed out for CICS region

Question & Answer

Question

How do I get the 'Clone Region' right-click action to be selectable? I just installed CICS Deployment Assistance for z/OS (CICS DA) V5.2 and successfully ran the Discover and Load... actions. When I right-click on one of my discovered managed CICS regions, the Clone Region option is grayed out and I cannot select it to clone the region.

Answer

There needs to be a region start policy associated with the region you want to clone before the CICS Deployment Assistant 'Clone Region' right-click action is selectable. Follow these steps to create a start policy for the region.

1) Double click the region you plan to clone to open the editor. alt text

2) Click the Specify start policy button and either specify the the data set name for the start policy or use the Browse button to select a data set or data set member for the start policy. In this example, the start policy for Managed CICS Region WJBMS52C is a batch job and the JCL resides in PDS member 'BULFIN.CTS520.CICS690.XDFHINST(WJBMS52C'. alt text

3) Click OK to update the start policy and then key CTRL-S to save it.

5) Click the Refresh icon on the DA Explorer to pick up the change.

6) Right-click on your region (we were using WJBMS52C) and now the Clone Region action should no longer be grayed out and you can click it to begin the cloning task.
