Question & Answer
Question
I brought up some CICS Transaction Server for z/OS (CICS TS) 5.2 regions to test with CICS Explorer and every time I use the right-click menu on a CICS Region view and choose any SIT parameter option... for example, COMBINED, JCL, SYSIN, Console... the SIT Parameters attribute view opens, but the contents is always be empty.
No errors were logged in the Error Log view so I starting tracing in the CMAS, WUI server, and CICS region. In each trace I saw the data being obtained successfully so I was puzzled as to why I could not see the SIT parameters. I asked a co-worker to view their 5.2 region SIT parameters in another sandbox configuration and it worked fine for them, I could also view their SIT parms if I connected to their WUI from my Explorer so I thought I might have a possible maintenance or security problem. They also could not view the SIT parms if they connected to of my 5.2 WUI server from their Explorer, so I thought it must be my WUI. I could view CICS TS 5.1 region SIT parms just fine from my Explorer, so was still thinking it must be something unique to 5.2, but I could display the SIT parms just fine from my 5.2 test WUI server view EYUSTARTSYSPARM.TABULAR.
In the end, I collected the CICS Explorer service data since I could not find any host problems... and in the logs folders in file .cicsexplorer.trace.0.log it showed the problem as in this trace snippet below with message DFHWU4301. But, when I looked up message DFHWU4301 in the IBM Knowledge Center under the CICS TS 5.2 documentation, it didn't match the message in the trace. The text of the DFHWU4301 in the trace snippet says "An error has occurred in the CICS management client interface. The request has been denied as it exceeded a resource limit." But, the message in the Knowledge Center says "It is not possible to run requests in this environment. The region is not configured correctly."
Can you help?
Answer
The reason the Attributes view for the CICS SIT parameters is empty for your 5.2 WUI server is the WUIPARM DEFAULTWARNCNT is specified and there are more SIT parm rows to be returned than supported. You need to update the DEFAULTWARNCNT value specified in your 5.2 WUI server to something like 500 so the SIT parms can be returned.
It is definitely a good idea to specify a warning record count value (DEFAULTWARNCNT) for the WUI server for handling CICS Explorer CMCI requests, but in your case, the value is too small to allow the return of all the SIT parameters. See Optional parameters for the WUI in the CICS documentation for more information about specifying DEFAULTWARNCNT.
