Question & Answer
Question
Why does the Eclipse JVM crash and display the following popup with "JVM terminated. Exit code=1 ..." each time I attempt to edit a Java source file on Linux RHEL 6.3 using z/OS Explorer or CICS Explorer?
Answer
Edit the eclipse.ini file in the z/OS Explorer or CICS Explorer install folder and add the following setting, then restart the Explorer.
-Dorg.eclipse.swt.internal.gtk.cairoGraphics=false
There is some incompatibility between the cairo graphics package and Eclipse versions installed on RHEL Linux. This setting will resolve the JVM terminated. Exit code=1 problem.
