Setting dump options for IBM Session Manager address space

Question & Answer

Question

What dump options are required to obtain a complete dump for IBM Session Manager problems such as an IEA995I or ISZ0103E abend message?

The IBM Session Manager change team recently requested a recreate on an S0C3 abend problem because the dump did not contain all of the private area storage. It would be much better to set the dump options up correctly and avoid having to recreate a dump.

Answer

To make sure you set the dump options correctly so that you to get a complete dump for IBM Session Manager problems, verify that your IBM Session Manager is configured with the following:

  • Job control with a ddname for //SYSUDUMP.

  • The Session Manger SYSTEM configuration statement with the default option RTMDUMP in the SYSDUMP parameter.

  • The SYS1.PARMLIB IEADMPxx member with SDATA=(CB,ENQ,TRT,ERR,DM),PDATA=ALLPDATA

If you are using a 3rd party dump management product, ensure it can provide the same dump options for the Session Manager address space.

You can modify the current dump settings dynamically using the CHNGDUMP commands, for example:

CD SET,SYSUDUMP,SDATA=(CB,ENQ,TRT,ERR,DM)
CD SET,SYSUDUMP,PDATA=ALLPDATA

See the z/OS IEADMP00 dump options for more details.

You can also optionally configure IBM Session Manager to write dumps to a GDG (Generation Data Group) to improve performance and ensure you do not lose any dumps. See the topic Setting Dump GDG data set support in CHAPTER 5 - Post-installation configuration issues in the IBM Session Manager Installation and Customization manual, GC34-2804-00.

Lastly, you can review the Webcast replay: IBM Session Manager for z/OS - Collecting Diagnostics.
