How do I configure NSS to support FIPS 140?

Question & Answer

Question

How do I configure network security services (NSS) in z/OS Communications Server to support FIPS 140?

Answer

To configure NSS to support FIPS 140:

  • If you are hard-coding the NSS configuration file (for example, nssd.conf), specify Yes as the FIPS140 value.

  • Alternatively, if you are using the Configuration Assistant, configure the FIPS 140 option in the Advanced Server Settings for NSS in the NSS perspective.

  • After you have configured FIPS 140, restart the NSS daemon if it was active.
