IBM Session Manager APPL not using INDRANGE for ACBRANGE

Question & Answer

Question

How do I get IBM Session Manager for z/OS (ISM) to use the ACBRANGE ISM01000 for the new APPL definitions? I am using IBM Session Manager for z/OS V3.1.00B and configured a RANGE statement 'ISM01000' with 250 ACBs and an APPL xyz that specifies INDRANGE ISM01. When I issued the command PUPDATE APPL, I received message:

ISZ0520W APPL xyz INDRANGE ISM01 not found - ignored.

I then issued command PUPDATE RANGE for 'ISM01000' and received message:

ISZ0355W No reference for RANGE ISM01000

Answer

Go into the Online Administration (OLA) application and verify the following:

  1. Select option 5 for APPL definitions

  2. Select the 'ISM01' APPL

  3. Select option 1 for APPL specific parameters

  4. Select TERMLOGMODE(S)

  5. Select a TERMLOGMODE from the list (there may only be one)

  6. Select the ACBRANGE

  7. Specify the 'ISM01000' RANGE statement value for your specific RANGE definition

  8. Select any other TERMLOGMODE statements if you have more than one for different LOGMODEs and specify the specific RANGE statement for the ACBRANGE for each one.

  9. Enter PF3 to save and activate the change.

You can now select your xyz APPL from the menu with the desired logmode and the ACB will be used from the 'ISM01' APPL where you defined the RANGE in the ACBRANGE parameter for each TERMLOGMODE.

You can read more about how ISM selects an ACB from RANGE in the topic ‘Best fit ACB allocation for RANGE statements’ in Chapter 7 Setting up applications in the Implementation and Customization manual Document id: GC34-2804-00.

You can read more about how ISM uses the INDRANGE option in Chapter 11 APPL statement in the Technical Reference manual document id: SC34-2805-00.
