DFHKE0001 0C1 AKEA in DFHKEDD at CICS startup when using CA QuickFetch

Question & Answer

Question

Why am I receiving message DFHKE0001 Abend code 0C1/AKEA occurred in module DFHKEDD? This started happening during CICS Transaction Server for z/OS (CICS TS) V5.2 initialization after I applied CICS maintenance. I am using CA QuickFetch Runtime Performance Optimizer from Ca Technologies.

Answer

If you take a look at a dump of your CICS region, you might notice that CICS modules are not at the expected (newer) PTF levels in the loader domain. For instance, PTF UI25263 updates many modules including DFHD2ST and DFHSTFC. Yet in the dump these modules were back level - DFHD2ST was at base level and DFHSTFC was at UI20597. But, you will find this PTF, UI25263, applied to a large number of modules like DFHAPSI and DFHSII1.

It is also confusing when browsing your SDFHLOAD dataset, where these modules should be pulled from. DFHD2ST and DFHSTFC both show that they are at the latest PTF level of UI25263 in SDFHLOAD, yet the corresponding dump of the region shows that they are back level.

In this case, the region came up successfully after recycling CA QuickFetch. I would recommend always recycling CA QuickFetch after applying maintenance to CICS.
