Why am I seeing the message IST1927I with RC=1115 RSN=12070288?

Question & Answer

Question

After entering the command F NET,VTAMOPTS,SNAMGMT=YES, the following error messages are issued:

IST1926I SNAMGMT SERVER IS UNABLE TO ACCEPT CONNECTION REQUESTS

IST1927I SOCKET BIND CALL FAILED - RC = 1115 RSN = 12070288

Answer

USS reason code 0288 is JRNameExists and indicates that when VTAM tried to create /var/sock/SNAMGMT it was already in existence.

The problem was existence of /var/sock/SNAMGMT at the time when the F NET,VTAMOPTS,SNAMGMT=YES was issued.

When VTAM starts up, or when the above command is issued, VTAM will try to create the directory /var/sock/SNAMGMT. For some reason this was already created and hence the failure occurs.

To resolve this problem, do the following in the specified order:

  1. Issue the command F NET,VTAMOPTS,SNAMGMT=NO

  2. Delete the directory /var/sock/SNAMGMT

  3. Enable SNAMGMT by issuing F NET,VTAMOPTS,SNAMGMT=YES
