Question & Answer
Question
SNMP queries for objects supported by the TCPIP subagent fail with the following message:
EZZ3208I SNMP Subagent: ioctl_type failed with error: EDC5132I Not enough memory
How is insufficient memory causing these failures, and how do I resolve them?
Answer
When the TCPIP subagent issues an IOCTL, storage is obtained from ECSA to process the IOCTL. If sufficient ECSA storage does not exist, or if the current ECSA is too fragmented to obtain a contiguous block of storage of the desired size, the IOCTL will fail and this message will be issued.
This error is typically the result of having too little ECSA allocated for the system. In these cases, increasing ECSA to an appropriate amount will resolve the problem. For additional information on determining how much ECSA is needed for your system, please reference the Communications Server ECSA and CSM Storage Shortage Usage Technote.
It is also possible that your system already has sufficient ECSA storage. If this is the case, other problems may be causing excessive ECSA consumption. To further diagnose this, please refer to the MustGather: Collect Troubleshooting Data / Read First / Fix List for TCPIP CSM Storage for z/OS Communications Server Technote.
