CICS CM READYLST API command without scheme overlays existing schemes with an asterisk

Question & Answer

Question

When requesting a List command for ready candidate resources either using the CICS Configuration Manager for z/OS (CICS CM) V5.2 ISPF dialog panelid CCVPPKR1 option 3.2. List List the ready-candidate CICS resources or using the batch API READYLST command for any package and a scheme is not provided, the system will overlay the existing scheme with an * which will prevent the package from being migrated since an asterisk is not a valid scheme. The scheme tag in this case is optional and does not need to be provided. If a scheme is provided this problem does not occur.

Answer

The behavior described here where the existing schemes are overlaid with an asterisk can occur if the CCVDDD, CCVJNL, CCVPT1, or CCVPT2 CICS CM control files have been redefined as RLSACCESS(YES) and also specify LOG(NONE) in the IDCAMS DEFINE CLUSTER definition. The failing scenario occurs if a required CICS CM issued EXEC CICS SYNCPOINT ROLLBACK fails to backout changes. The rollback cannot occur with LOG(NONE) and RLSACCESS(YES).
