org.osgi.framework.BundleException stops z/OS and CICS Explorer from opening

Question

When trying to open the z/OS Explorer or CICS Explorer, I receive a pop-up box indicating more info is available in the .metadata/.log file. When looking at the contents of the workspace/.metadata/.log file I see the following messages and would like to know what is causing the org.osgi.framework.BundleException?

org.osgi.framework.BundleException: Exception in org.eclipse.core.resources.ResourcesPlugin.start() of bundle
org.eclipse.core.resources.

Answer

The cause of the org.osgi.framework.BundleException is corruption in the Eclipse workspace. To resolve this problem, try the following:

  1. Backup the effected workspace directory

  2. Delete any instances of the following files from the workspace:

           <workspace>\.metadata\.plugins\org.eclipse.core.resources\.projects\<project>.markers.snap
              <workspace>\.metadata\.plugins\org.eclipse.core.resources\.snap         
    
    
  3. Restart z/OS Explorer and CICS Explorer
