CICS BAC GENSETFILE PTF UI26219 for APAR PI23581 missing ++HOLD DOC

Question & Answer

Question

Where is the documentation for the GENSETFILE parameter? After applying CICS Batch Application Control for z/OS (CICS BAC) PTF UI26219 for APAR PI23581, I am unable to locate any documentation on the GENSETFILE parameter in the IBM Knowledge Center. There is also no ++HOLD REASON(DOC) to describe how to use or specify the Generic Set File (GFS) parameter.

Answer

You are correct that there was no ++HOLD REASON(DOC) added to PTF UI26219 to describe the new function.

A feedback request has been submitted to add the following update to the IBM Knowledge Center for CICS BAC.

The attached pdf document provides a detailed technical description of the Generic Set File processing enhancement and will also be added to the IBM Knowledge Center fo CICS BAC.

Technical Description of the CICS Batch Application Control for z/OS Generic Set File Processing Enhancement 2014-07-04

The following is a list of the new parameters that have been added by the Generic Set File (GSF) enhancement:

GENSETFILE(NO|YES) this parameter must be specified in the CBKBATCH parm member. It specifies whether or not generic SET FILE commands are allowed. The default value is NO.

DORLSQUIESCE(YES|NO) this parameter must be specified in the CICS region's INITPARM parameter or in the input string when CBAC is started from a terminal using the KBKM transaction ID. It specifies whether or not files defined as RLS data sets should be UNQUIESCED or QUIESCED when the file is being OPENED or CLOSED. The default value is YES. The value for this parameter will only be displayed in the job log during CBAC startup in the region if it has been specified, for example, if it is allowed to take the default value, the parameter and value will not be shown in the job log.

DOALLOPENSTAT(NO|YES) this parameter must be specified in the CICS region's INITPARM parameter or in the input string when CBAC is started from a terminal using the KBKM transaction ID. It specifies whether or not CBAC will do a SET FILE command that contains the OPENSTATUS parameter if the file is already at the requested OPENSTATUS. The default is NO. The value for this parameter will only be displayed in the job log during CBAC startup in the region if it has been specified, for example, if it is allowed to take the default value, the parameter and value will not be shown in the job log.

Note that the default parameters all result in CBAC performing as it did before this group of enhancements. In other words, you must specify the non-default value for all three in order to have CBAC perform the way you require for your environment.
