Question & Answer
Question
An application to application session is attempted between two VTAM hosts and the session hangs in PCRYPK status, as indicated by a a display of the session.
Answer
PCRYPK - session initiation state x'E7' - indicates that the session is hung "pending cryptographic keys": VTAM has requested cryptographic keys from the MVS CRYPTO facility for the session but has not yet received them. In this case, tte MVS CRYPTO facility was not fully functional on the operating system, and therefore could not respond to VTAM's request. The following messages indicate that the MVS CRYPTO facility was not fully functional:
CSV019I REQUESTED MODULE CSNBKGN NOT ACCESSED, IS IN NON-APF LIBRARY/CONCATENATION
CSV028I ABEND306 RC/0C JOBNAME=jjj STEPNAME=sss
If you desire cryptography for your VTAM session, make the MVS CRYPTO facility fully functional, so when VTAM invokes the MVS CRYPTO facility, the invocation reply will return to VTAM. To make the MVS CRYPTO facility fully functional, the following libraries need to be APF authorized:
SYS1.VTAMLIB
SYS1.CSF.SCSFMOD0
To check the libraries, issue the command:
D PROG,APF,ALL
If either library is missing, add it dynamically with the command:
SETPROG APF,ADD,DSNAME=libname,VOLUME=volume
