CICS Explorer Unix Files view is empty

Question & Answer

Question

When using the z/OS perspective in CICS Explorer V5.2.0.3 on Windows, why would the UNIX Files view for the zFS directory for my CICS TS 5.2 files show (0) files? If I display the exact same directory from the same userid using ishell from ISPF, I can see all the folders and files in this directory. I don't understand why CICS Explorer isn't able to access or display the directory.

Answer

After obtaining debug trace on z/OS it was determined that there was directory data being sent to CICS Explorer, but it was not parsed correctly. Experimenting by specifying the following command from a DOS command prompt or from ISPF option 6 in FTP ....

 QUOTE SITE SBDATACONN=TATCPIP.STANDARD.TCPXLBIN

...resulted in the CICS Explorer z/OS Unix Files view displaying the expected folders and files in the directory path. This tells the FTP session what translate tables to use for this request. Keep in mind, that this command changes the default for ALL applications that access FTP on z/OS.

Request for Enhancement (RFE) 79553 was submitted asking for the CICS Explorer to provide the ability to specify the FTP options for use by the CICS Explorer client. As a workaround, you can set the SYS1.TCPPARMS(FTPDATA) member to "SBDATACONN=TATCPIP.STANDARD.TCPXLBIN" but again this affects the entire TCPIP stack for all applications on z/OS. The RFE is a request for CICS Explorer to add the ability to enter the QUOTE SITE command to pass the FTP option for this session only. Currently, you cannot do this.

If you would like to increase the chances of this enhancement request being completed, click on RFE 79553 then sign-on using your IBMid, scroll to the bottom of the page, and click on "vote" to vote for it.
