IBM Support

IBM Session Manager preventing BROADCAST messages from going to disconnected userids

Question & Answer

Question

When using IBM Session Manger for z/OS, is there a way to send a BROADCAST message to active users only so that disconnected users that reconnect days later don't get the old message?

Answer

There is no option to only send a BROADCAST message to currently signed on users but you can send with the BROADCAST command with the FOR option that expires 1 minute after being sent.

For example -

BROADCAST 'Hello World' ALL FOR 00:01

Alternatively consider implementing IDLELOGOFF 480 (after 8 hours) so that disconnected users do not reconnect to see an old out of date broadcast.
