DFHLD0110 during CICS TS 5.3 initialization when using HourGlass

Question & Answer

Question

Why is my CICS region failing with message DFHLD0110 for module DFHAPIN during startup after upgrading to CICS Transaction Sever for z/OS (CICS TS) V5.3? I am using the IBM HourGlass product and running with CICS parameter RENTPGM equal to PROTECT.

I had previously used HourGlass with CICS TS V5.2 and can see the internal version of CICS TS V5.2 (6.9.0) and the internal version of CICS TS V5.3 (7.0.0) in the message I receive:

DFHLD0100I applid A CICS 6.9.0.Version of nucleus module DFHAPIN found when initializing CICS Version 7.0.0.

Answer

To run CICS TS 5.3 with HourGlass, you must rerun the AGGAPINL job in the SAGGSAMP library to relinkedit the CICS TS 5.3 version of DFHAPIN as non-rentrant . You must also place the updated DFHAPIN module into a library ahead of SDFHLOAD in the DFHRPL concatenation. If this isn't done, CICS initialization will terminate when CICS detects the back level version of DFHAPIN.

This is a result of CICS TS 5.3 tightening up on restrictions. Starting with CICS TS 5,3, CICS is now checks when loading modules during CICS initialization that the modules being loaded are indeed CICS TS 5.3 versions of the modules.
