Question & Answer
Question
Why do I have to install IBM Session Manager V3.2 in the CICS C150 SREL in SMP/E? The Program Directory for IBM Session Manager for z/OS Version 3 Release 2 in section 5.2 Target System Requirements states "Session Manager installs in the CICS (C150) SREL".
Answer
IBM Session Manager for z/OS Version 3 Release 2 is CICS tool and has a CICS Interface function FMID JSMX201 as part of the install. This FMID has parts that require access to the CICS Transaction Server for z/OS target libraries for assembling CICS TS programs used by the Session Manager CICS Interface (for example in the SISZCONF PDSE data set, in member ISZDFHAX). If you are not using the CICS Interface function FMID JSMX201, you can create your own SMP/E CSI data sets for Session Manager and install using the CICS SREL(C150) and since you are using your own separate CSI data sets, the install of Session Manager can be isolated from the CICS TS CSI data sets.
So in summary, Session Manager does have to install into GLOBALZONE SREL(C150) for a CICS product, but it can also be installed using its own separate CSI data sets.
