Is it possible to dynamically update an interface to OMPROUTE?

Question & Answer

Question

We would like to be able to make changes to existing interface statements to OMPROUTE without having to stop and start OMPROUTE. Stopping and starting OMPROUTE can be very disruptive.

Answer

You can use the MODIFY procname,RECONFIG command to reread the OMPROUTE configuration file. This command accepts and applies only statements of the following types that have been added to the configuration file since the last time the file was read:

  • OSPF_INTERFACE

  • RIP_INTERFACE

  • INTERFACE

  • IPV6_OSPF_INTERFACE

  • IPV6_OSPF (ROUTERID parameter only)

  • IPV6_RIP_INTERFACE

  • IPV6_INTERFACE

These configuration statements must be reread from the configuration file using the MODIFY procname,RECONFIG command before the interfaces to which they refer are defined to the TCP/IP stack. If you have coded GLOBAL_OPTIONS IGNORE_UNDEFINED_INTERFACES=YES in your OMPROUTE configuration file, you can use OMPROUTE reconfiguration to add a definition for an interface that has already been configured in the stack but ignored by OMPROUTE. However, OMPROUTE does not associate the interface with the new definition until the interface has been deleted from the stack and re-added.
