Why is TLSv1.2 not being used for my FTP session?

Question & Answer

Question

Windows is configured to use TSLv1.2. I can get TLSv1.2 to be used from a Windows client to a Windows server but not from a z/OS client. The connection is only using SSLv3 for the z/OS Connection.

Answer

In the FTP.DATA file TLSMECHANISM is specified with FTP. This is native SSL which does not support TLSv1.2. TLSv1.2 requires TLSMECHANISM ATTLS to be specified.
