When do changes to my ISPF panel take effect?

Question & Answer

Question

I changed my panel, but ISPF doesn't seem to notice until I exit ISPF and re-enter it. Why? What can I do about it?

Answer

ISPF keeps the 6 most recently displayed panels in storage for performance reasons. When you edit the panel definition, the changes are saved in the data set, but the copy of the panel in the cache is not changed.

Here are some options:

  1. Use the TEST option when you enter ISPF.

  2. Dialog Test bypasses the cache. You can either test your panel in dialog test, or you can go into dialog test (option 7) and then leave dialog test. The cache will be bypassed until you exit ISPF.
