CICS VSAM Recovery reporting times in both Local and GMT

Question & Answer

Question

Why am I seeing both Local and GMT time stamps in the DWW batch job? Everything in in the CICS VSAM Recovery for z/OS (CICS VR) ISPF panels is set to local time. So, I don't understand where the GMT time is coming from.

These are the messages I receive:

DWW1101I The archive utility is started at 16/03/14 04:00:01

DWW1130I Automatic delete of blocks before 15.079 09:00:02 GMT time was success &hlq..CICSTSnn.DFHLGLOG.

I see where we have 4am for the utility start time but a GMT time stamp during the auto delete of blocks.

Answer

The value for Time presentation format (Local or GMT) entered at CICS VR dialog is used to show timestamps on the CICS VR panels only (see the CICS VR Time Presentation -Help panel for details.) This value does not affect timestamps that are included in messages issued by CICS VR server or CICS VR batch jobs.

Setting the global time format in the CICS VR documentation describes this setting.

CICS VR deregistration uses GMT time as a search argument for logstream blocks to be deleted. Using local time could lead to unpredictable results during switching from summer time to winter time and conversely. The DWW1130I message includes such search argument in GMT as designed.

To provide accurate log blocks processing at deregistration, CICS VR internally uses GMT time format. So it makes sense to keep GMT time in the DWW1130I message as a base message. If you think it is reasonable to issue an additional (secondary) message with local time if LOCAL is set as default, please submit an Request-For-Enhancement (RFE) to describe the business case.
