Question & Answer
Question
Why would I receive an "Unknown host" message when using FTP ftp.emea.ibm.com to send diagnostic information like logs, trace, or a dump to IBM Support? I have been using the same FTP command successfully for years, but the command no longer works.
Answer
In August of 2021, there was a change to the EcuRep FTP site. According to ECuRep News, "after keeping the DNS name ftp.emea.ibm.com as backup for the primary DNS name ftp.ecurep.ibm.com (IP address 9.155.11.57) for several years, it has been removed from the DNS server as part of an IBM consolidation effort."
Prior to the change, there were redirects in place so if in the past you did an FTP to ftp.emea.ibm.com, your documentation would arrive successfully at IBM. The redirects are no longer in place so you will now receive the "Unknown host" message.
To send diagnostic information to IBM Support, use the ftps address listed below that is nearest to your physical location:
Americas Server address: testcase.boulder.ibm.com (ftps.ecurep.ibm.com works also)
Asia Pacific Server address: ftps.ap.ecurep.ibm.com
Europe Server address: ftps.ecurep.ibm.com
You can send data to any of the above "ftps" addresses, but your speed of transfer will be quickest if you use the address for the geographic location nearest your physical location.
