Controlling private storage usage of CICS Temporary Storage Queue Server address space

Question & Answer

Question

How can I reduce and tune the amount of private storage that my CICS Temporary Storage Queue Server address space is using? I found that the TSQ address space uses the most private storage of any address space on the LPAR.

Answer

You can control the amount of private storage obtained by the Temporary Storage Queue Servers address space with a suitable REGION= parameter on the CICS jobcard. If you specify "REGION=0" then the CICS region gets as much storage as it can which might be the reason the TS Queue address space has the largest private storage usage on the LPAR.

When I was first looking at this problem, I took a look at the Defining temporary storage pools for temporary storage data sharing in the CICS Transaction Server for z/OS (CICS TS) documentation and was led to think the solution would be a change to the storage usage in the coupling facility. However, I found that this does not affect the private storage usage in the TS Queue server address space very much.
