Why is use of IWQ being rejected?

Question & Answer

Question

New OSAs are being added to the system, and are being defined to TCPIP using INTERFACE statements with INBPERF DYNAMIC WORKLOADQ specified (enabling Inbound Workload Queueing). The software and microcode levels are appropriate for IWQ, but when they are started an EZD0048I INTERFACE interfacename DOES NOT SUPPORT QDIO INBOUND WORKLOAD QUEUEING message is issued.

Answer

When the CHPIDs for these OSAs were defined in the hardware configuration (HMC or IODF), the option to support more that 160 stacks was enabled. With that option, multiple inbound queues (and outbound priority queues) cannot be used. Either change the HW configuration to disable that option or remove the use of IWQ from the INTERFACE statement.

NOTE: While supported, it is not recommended to have z/OS use OSA CHPIDs with the 640 stack option enabled.
