DFHAP0001 0C4 AKEA at offset 0674 in DFHERM when using CA Event Notification

Question

Why am I receiving message "DFHAP0001 An abend (code 0C4/AKEA) has occurred at offset X'0674' in module DFHERM" during an EMERGENCY or WARM start of CICS Transaction Sever for z/OS (CICS TS)? The failure does not occur during INITIAL and COLD starts. I am running with CA Technologies CA Event Notification Facility.

I looked at the CICS TS V5.3 fix list, and I don't see existing maintenance that hits this module.

Answer

Looking at the code in DFHERM +x'0674', CICS is expecting Register 4 (R4) to contain a pointer to a valid address. However,if you look at a system dump of the abend, you will see that R4 points into a TIE in the midst of an area holding a very recent timestamp:

If your problem looks the same, applying the CA Common Services 14.1 PTF RO75580 should resolve the abend 0C4 in DFHERM.
