Question & Answer
Question
Why is the z/OS Connect Enterprise Edition (EE) task LIBERTY initialization failing with the following error:
Error: zosconnect command /usr/lpp/java/J7.0 00400016/bin/java was not found, check JAVA_HOME is correct
You recently installed z/OS Connect EE V3.0. There are two started tasks that should be running. One started task is ANGEL and the other one is LIBERTY. The task ANGEL is up and running in the system, but the task LIBERTY is failing.
You are sure that Java™ home path is correct, but the LIBERTY task is still failing with this error indicating the path was not found.
Cause
The z/OS Connect server is failing to start due to sequence numbers (00400016) in columns 73-80 of the STDENV DD input statements. The same sequence numbers can be seen in the error message that is returned. This can be seen in the following STC log snippet:

Answer
Remove the sequence numbers from cols 73-80 in the STDENV input and restart the z/OS Connect server.
