Question & Answer
Question
Why do I get DFHLD0001 abend 0C4 AKEX at offset X'73CE' in DFHLDDMI when I try to start my CICS region? CICS will not initialize. It fails with the following error:
DFHLD0001 AN ABEND (CODE 0C4/AKEX) HAS OCCURRED AT OFFSET X'73CE' IN MODULE DFHLDDMI.
DFHME0116 (MODULE:DFHMEME) CICS SYMPTOM STRING FOR MESSAGE DFHLD0001 IS PIDS/5655Y0400 LVLS/680 MS/DFHLD0001 RIDS/DFHLDDMI PTFS/HCI7000 AB/S00C4 AB/UAKEX ADRS/000073CE
No changes were made to the region.
Answer
The DFHME0116 message that follows message DFHLD0001 shows that the code in the CICS region is mismatched:
The LVLS (levels) show the region is at CICS release "680". This is equivalent to HCI6800 for CICS Transaction Server for z/OS V5.1.
The PTFS (PTF level) for module DFHLDDMI show it is at "HCI7000". This is equivalent to CICS release 700 for CICS Transaction Server for z/OS V5.3.
Other CICS regions were updated to the new CICS TS V5.3 code and the new code was put into the LPA. But, the older CICS TS V5.1 regions still had LPA=YES in the system initialization table (SIT) OVERRIDES, as shown in the CICS message log:
DFHPA1100 OVERRIDE PARAMETERS FROM JCL EXEC STATEMENT: START=AUTO,SYSIN
DFHPA1102 OVERRIDE PARAMETERS FROM SYSIN:
DFHPA1927 LPA=YES,
After changing the SIT overrides to LPA=NO, the abend 0C4 in DFHLDDMI no longer occurred.
