DFHME0107 CJGMCT1E and DFHSI1579D CJG9NXLM when connecting CMAS to higher version of CICS TS

Question & Answer

Question

Can we bring up a higher version of CICS Transaction Server for z/OS (for example V5.3) using lower level CICSPlex SM (CPSM) MAS agents (for example V5.1) to connect to a lower level CMAS?

I tried to bring a CICS V5.3 region up on an LPAR that had a V5.1 CMAS.  I used AUTO start because the purpose of the test is to see if we could emergency start CICS after we lose an LPAR, and use an LPAR that is not yet on the highest release of CPSM. All of the CICS libraries are V5.3, but the SEYULOAD and SEYUAUTH were V5.1. The CICS region came up fine, but it did not connect to CPSM and I got some error messages about missing modules:

DFHME0107 *applid* Module **CJGMCT1E** cannot be found in the library.
DFHSI1579D *applid* Module DFHSIPLT connection program **CJG9NXLM** not found. Reply GO or CANCEL.

The two modules in these messages were missing from the V5.1 SEYUAUTH, but the modules are in the V5.3 SEYUAUTH.

Answer

The answer is no, you cannot connect a higher level CICS TS release using a lower level MAS agent and CMAS version.

I searched through the CICS documentation for upgrading topics for a MAS and CMAS and did not see any crisp clear documentation describing this, but I will submit a feedback form to say that the MAS agent version must be at the same version or higher as the CICS TS MAS and the MAS agent must connect to a CMAS running the same version of CICSPlex SM. I will ask that the updates be made to the following topics in the documentation:
