CWWKG0074E using zOS Connect EE after applying PI64748 or PI64749 to CICS TS

Question & Answer

Question

Why do I get configuration errors using zOS Connect Enterprise Edition (EE) after applying APAR PI64748 on CICS Transaction Server for z/OS (CICS TS) V5.2 or PI64749 on CICS TS V5.3?

The following error and warning messages are being issued to the Liberty messages.log file:

 CWWKG0011W: The configuration validation did not succeed. Reference pid is not defined for com.ibm.ws.config.xml.internal.metatype.ExtendedAttributeDefinitionImpl@3e5781d1[serviceRef]
 CWWKG0083W: A validation failure occurred while processing the [serviceProvider.target] property, value = [[(service.pid=${serviceRef})]]. Default value in use: [(service.pid=${serviceRef})].
 CWWKG0074E: Unable to update the configuration for zosconnect_zosConnectService with the unique identifier default-0 because of the exception: Variable evaluation loop detected: [serviceRef].

Answer

CICS APAR PI64748 and PI64749 upgrade CICS TS to embed WebSphere Liberty Profile (WLP) version 16.0.0.2. Internal changes within Liberty are incompatible with some versions of z/OS Connect Enterprise Edition (EE), which may result in errors for users with mismatching levels of Liberty and z/OS Connect EE maintenance.

The problem affect services that are defined to z/OS Connect EE using the Liberty server.xml file. So, you might experience error and warning messages such as CWWKG0011W, CWWKG0083W, and CWWKG0074E.

The error and warning messages refer to the "ServiceRef" attribute that is used when defining a service in z/OS Connect EE. For example server.xml may define a service such as:

 <zosconnect_zosConnectService invokeURI="/my/example" serviceName="myExampleService" serviceRef="com.ibm.cics.wlp.zosconnect.CICSEndpointService"/>

Services defined in the server.xml file are not recognized by z/OS Connect EE, and are not installed; attempts to invoke these services will typically result in an HTTP 404 response returned to the client.

The problem is resolved by applying z/OS Connect EE APAR PI66869 which will update z/OS Connect EE embedded WLP to 16.0.0.2, or by using the z/OS Connect EE open beta.

Alternatively apply CICS TS APAR PI64509 and PI64510 and remove the services from server.xml.
