Hang trying to install z/OS Explorer and CICS Explorer

Question

I am unable to complete the installation of CICS Explorer. I have downloaded IBM Explorer for z/OS and unzipped the files. When I execute the 'launchpad.exe' a window comes up titled: IBM Explorer for z/OS. I then click on the highlighted 'Install IBM Explorer for z/OS' but nothing happens. The window stays there, but nothing gets installed. Does anyone know why this is happening?

Answer

Because of a limitation in the launchpad component, if you are using a Windows system and run the launchpad from an account that does not have administrator privileges, the install link within the launchpad will have no effect and appears to just hang.

Do one of the following if you are not receiving a response when clicking on "Install IBM Explorer for z/OS":

  • Run the z/OS Explorer launchpad.exe from an account with administrator privileges.

  • Run the z/OS Explorer launchpad as an administrator by right-clicking on the launchpad executable (launchpad.exe) and choosing "Run as administrator".

  • Run the Installation Manager directly in user installation mode. Within the disk1 directory, move down into the InstallationManager directory and the appropriate InstallerImage directory for your platform. Run the userinst.exe executable. This will start Installation Manager in user installation mode which will install software to be available just for the current logged in user.
