IPv6 warning message in policy agent

Question & Answer

Question

The policy agent writes the following message to the logs, although there are only IPv4 addresses used in the policies: WARNING:005: check_config_files: IPv6 policies will be installed but are not enforceable on the IPv4 only image 'image_name'.

What can we do to get rid of this message?

Answer

This message is issued because DEFAULT DENY RULES are automatically created for both IPV4 and IPv6 traffic.

When IPv6 is disabled, there are 2 possible messages that can be issued in the log:

  • The one you are seeing is a message set up by LOGLEVEL 8.

  • if LOGLEVEL 64 is set for INFO, you would see - IPv6 disabled for image 'image_name'

The messages are warning you that t IPV6 is disabled. If that is expected, all is well and the message(s) should be ignored.

Changing your LOGLEVEL to remove level 8 would stop the WARNING messages from being issued - but it stops all WARNING messages, not just this one.
