CWXN still attached in CICS using ATTLSAWARE TCPIPSERVICE with matching URIMAP

Question & Answer

Question

I want to take advantage of the optimization of CSOL directly attaching the user transaction, instead of the WEB attach transaction (CWXN). I am running CICS Transaction Server for z/OS (CICS TS) V5.3 and modified my TCPIPSERVICE definition to specify SSL(ATTLSAWARE). Why would some requests coming in that have a matching URIMAP, still attach CWXN, instead of the user transaction?

Answer

CSOL will only directly attach the user transaction if it gets enough information on the receive to be able to make the decision. If TLS 1.0 is being used then you might not see the CWXN optimization that is expected. This is due to some clients splitting up the first request when using TLS 1.0 so CICS does not have enough information available to optimize the request. The recommendation would then be to use TLS 1.1 or 1.2.
