ACT/W status value on IBM Session Manager menu

Question & Answer

Question

What does ACT/W mean? I am using IBM Session Manager for z/OS V3.200B and some users see the text string "ACT/W" in the status column on their menu for some sessions. I cannot find the meaning of the status in the documentation.

Answer

ACT/W means active session with Write(s) outstanding. I suspect user turned on OMEGAMON auto-update and then ESCAPEd from the session.

ISM maintains 2 variables for session status:

  • s_a displays the numeric status

  • s_aa the character status

These s_aa values can be modified by setting MESSAGE(s) 404 through 417.

In a CLASSIC system see ..SISZCONF(ISZLENMU) or in an online administration (OLA) system look in PDSE ..SISZMSG(ISZM0404).

Page 236 and 237 of Chapter 5 "Session Manager variables" in the IBM Session Manager for z/OS V3.2 Panels, Scripts & Variables manual (SC34-2806-00) shows relationship between status and message number.
