IBM Support

IBM Session Manager mixed case password support

Question & Answer

Question

How can I determine if my IBM Session Manager for z/OS (ISM) V3.200B supports mixedcase passwords for my external security manager?

Answer

This is described in the IBM Session Manager for z/OS Installation and Customization Version 3 Release 2 document GC34-2804-00 in the Summary of new features - New features on page 43 where you will see the t_mxcpass variable described.

If your external security manager (ESM) is RACF, the SETROPTS for MIXEDCASE enables mixed case password support. IBM Session Manager will set the t_mxcpass variable if it detects the ESM supports mixed case passwords.

There is no need to restart ISM to pick up the SETROPTS PASSWORD(MIXEDCASE) change. ISM will detect the change and dynamically set the t_mxcpass global variable at the next user login.

You can enter command VALUE t_mxcpass from the main menu in IBM Session Manager to see if it returns "Y" or "N".
