EYUXL0138I Waiting for Workload and tasks in ICWAIT suspend

Question & Answer

Question

When dynamic transactions ran in my CICS region, they all entered an ICWAIT out of the DTRPGM program EYU9XLOP until the region hung up at maxtask. I also got message EYUXL0138I indicating my CICS region was not connected to a workload.

I had a CICS routing region associated with our workload specification from a CICS System Group definition. The problem started because I needed to remove the CICS region temporarily. I removed the region from the CICS system group then added it back to the same CICS system group. But, it never actually became associated as a routing region.

Why didn't the CICS region become a router when I added it back to the same CICS system group?

Answer

If you use the CICSPlex SM Web User Interface (WUI) to add the CICS System definition (CSYSDEF) back to the CICS System Group definition (CSYSGRP), the default behavior is to not inherit the workload specification (WLMSPEC) associated with the CICS System group. The 'WLM specification inheritance' option is "KEEP" which means not to inherit.

You should specify NULL for the "WLM specification inheritance" option and the click the Yes button on the "Perform 'Add to CICS system group'?" on View name: EYUSTARTCSYSDEF.ADDTOGRP as in the example below.
