Persistent Datastore (PDS) datasets OMEGAMON offline

Question & Answer

Question

My persistent datastore datasets (PDS) are offline for some of my OMEGAMON products. How do I get them to go online?

Answer

There are several factors to take into consideration when PDS datasets are offline:

1) Where are you collecting the data? At the Agent or the TEMS?

2) Do you know the cause of why these datasets went offline? For example: you updated to a new release, hardware issue, etc.

This technote gives great troubleshooting information on PDS issues: http://www.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21623100

As a last resort, when the datasets will not come online: If you are using PARMGEN:

1) Take the TEMS or Agent (depending on where data is being collected) down

2) Once the TEMS or Agent is completely down, then delete the offline datasets:

philev.RK*ppxxx#*

  • Where philev is the PDS high level qualifier

  • Where pp is the product code

  • Where xxx is a product identifier such as PDS, or HIS or DSx depending on the product

  • Where # is a number. For example:

      * Mainframe Networks it would be OMEGXE.V530.RKN3HIS#
       * Messaging on z/OS it would be OMEGXE.V530.RKMQPDS#, etc

3) Run the PARMGEN KCIJPALO job (this job is in dataset (WKANSAMU) to reallocate the datasets above. You will see RC=12 for datasets already allocated and this will not hurt anything. You should see a RC=0 for your newly allocated RK*ppxxx# datasets.

4) Bring the TEMS or Agent back up.

If you are using ICAT:

1) Take the TEMS or Agent (depending on where data is being collected) down 2) Once the TEMS or Agent is completely down, then delete the offline datasets:

philev.RKppxxx#

  • Where philev is the PDS high level qualifier

  • Where pp is the product code

  • Where xxx is a product identifier such as PDS, or HIS or DSx depending on the product

  • Where # is a number. For example:

      * Mainframe Networks it would be OMEGXE.V530.RKN3HIS#,
       * Messaging on z/OS it would be OMEGXE.V530.RKMQPDS#, etc

3) In your INSTJOBS dataset look for pp*#Q*xx members where pp is a product code and xx is a suffix. You may need to run multiple #Q jobs to recreate the datasets. Please look in the #Q job and see which ones contain the datasets above and run those jobs.

4) Bring the TEMS or Agent back up.
