Why am I getting a s002 ABEND when doing a SAVE from SCLM EDIT?

Question & Answer

Question

When editing a member within SCLM for a group and type that has versioning enabled, I get an S002/00000004 ABEND. This can also occur from a PROMOTE or MIGRATE when a targeted data set has versioning enabled, or a BUILD if one of the output data sets is versioned.

I also get this message:

  IEC036I 002-04,IGC0005E,userid,IKJACCNT,SLxxxxxx,uuuu,vvvv,
    SYSyyddd.Thhmmss.RA000.userid.SLxxxxxx.H01

Answer

The BLKSIZE specified for the VERSION data set is smaller than the BLKSIZE of the source data set that is being versioned. It is possible that this condition could exist for a long period of time without any visible problems because the ABEND only occurs if the size of the new delta exceeds a single VERSION data set block.

Reallocate the affected VERSION data set specifying a BLKSIZE that is at least as large as that used for the source data set. Check the VERSION data sets (VERPDS) for other types and groups that are specified on FLMATVER statements in this project to ensure their BLKSIZEs are large enough, and reallocate them as needed.

Be sure to copy all the content from the previous VERSION data set into the new one.
