Production test same LPAR OMEGAMON MQ z/OS LINKLST modules KMQAMHSD KMQAMHST KMQASSIN

Question & Answer

Question

I have production and test RTE's on the same LPAR. I want to upgrade TEST first then PROD (production) later with OMEGAMON XE Agent for Messaging on z/OS V730 which is currently at V710. The upgrade calls the updated modules in LINKLST (specifically KMQAMHSD, KMQAMHST, KMQASSIN), can I do this without impacting my production environment?

Answer

Once LINKLST is refreshed, both TEST and PROD environment on the same LPAR will be impacted and the old KMQ subsystem cannot be used any more, a new KMQ subsystem is required. The new KMQ subsystem can only work with the new level of the KMQ agent.

The subsystem and LINKLST modules only apply to an optional feature of the agent that is no longer configured by default. The feature is MQI Monitoring for Application Statistics. If you do not specify enabling this feature via the SET MQIMONITOR and SET APPL parameters in RKANCMDU(KMQUSER and / or KMQSTART) statements, then you are not using this optional feature.

If you are using the feature, the recommendation is to disable it in Test during the Test period. You should not be updating LNKLST and the subsystem at this time. You can test the agent and all other features without impacting production. Then when you are ready to upgrade your production environment, you can re-enable this feature. You should consider disabling this feature in production and test it in the TEST environment prior to enabling it in production.
