DFHZC3434 Unbind received while session still active on a CICS to IMS LU61 connection

Question & Answer

Question

Why is the session on a CICS to IMS LU61 connection ended by IMS as soon as it is started? I receive these two messages in my CICS Transaction Server for z/OS (CICS TS) region, one right after the other:

DFHZC3461 session started. ((2) Module name: DFHZOPX)
DFHZC3434 Unbind received while session still active. ((3) Module name: DFHZSCX)

Answer

If you are setting up a new connection between CICS and IMS, you have to define every session to both sides.

  • CICS defines each session in a SESSIONS definition.

  • IMS defines each session in a VTAMPOOL SUBPOOL pair.

  • The CICS NETNAMEQ option is the same as the IMS SUBPOOL NAME.

See Defining CICS-to-IMS LUTYPE6.1 links in the CICS Transaction Server documentation for details on how to set the sessions up.
