Hi Team,
We are using FileNet CM, ICN and Datacap for our ECM solution. My question is related to DB2 database usage in context of FileNet CM, ICN and Datacap.
As per DB2 design, DB2 can have multiple instance, each instance can have multiple databases and each database can have multiple schema. Meaning DB2 has segregation of middleware at multiple levels instance, database, schema.
I understand FileNet CM, ICN and Datacap can be configured in 1 instance 1 database and multiple schema OR 1 instance multiple databases 1 schema each OR multiple instances 1 database and 1 schema each.
May I understand which approach is the best practice in context of the product FileNet CM, ICN and Datacap? Some references I have already gone through for my understanding.

From DB2 point of view, I understand depending of various requirements and allocation of resources instance and database design decision can be taken but from FileNet CM, ICN and Datacap point of view, what is best suited and what is IBM recommendation? https://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/SSEPGG_10.5.0/com.ibm.db2.luw.admin.dbobj.doc/doc/c0052343.html … https://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/SSEPGG_10.5.0/com.ibm.db2.luw.admin.dbobj.doc/doc/c0052074.html …
Thank you.

Hi Ankit, in general, there should not be any restrictions on instance/db/schema as put forth in the DwAnswers forum question other than the recommendation of putting the GCD into its own database.
For specific DB2 recommendations, it would best to open a PMR so we can get a DB2 specialist to provide you the best direction, on resources, administration, and performance trade-offs and decisions.
Thank you
Hi Team, my question is related to FileNet, ICN and Datacap ECM family of product perspective. I am expecting answer from FileNet, ICN and Datacap ECM family of product perspective. As multiple database vendors have different way of resource segregation, I can relate the FileNet, ICN and Datacap database requirements on my own. Appreciate your response considering above expectation. Thank you.

Ankit, each object store, GCD and ICN should be in its own DB but can share a DB2 instance. The GCD and ICN should always be in its own DB. With the release of P8 5.2.x, we added support for data source sharing which equates to sharing a DB and segregating by schema. Doing this can impact the Service Level Agreement (SLA), backup/restore, upgrades, etc. so you should consider the overall impact in doing this.
Thank you
May I confirm when you are confirming separate DB is required, are you confirming it is in context of DB2 only? I believe same rule would be applicable for Oracle but separation by schema level. For sharing of the data source, I am familiar with technote below. https://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21645936

Hi Ankit, your understanding is correct, it would apply for other databases as well. Yes that technote you have mentioned for sharing datasources can be used.
Thank you
