CICS CM Using '=' as first tranid char causes ISPF jump function

Question & Answer

Question

I am using CICS Configuration Manager for z/OS (CICS CM) V5.2 and if I enter transactions that start with an equal sign "=" it appears that the CM manager screens are taking this as an ISPF jump command. On the DB2Tran definition it goes to the main menu and says xxx option not valid. On the program definition (defining a DPL definition) it simply clears the field and asks to save or cancel. Since these are data fields and not command fields can this be turned off?

Answer

The reason the ISFP JUMP is occurring is because the ISPF dialog panels contain input fields (for example for the CICS transaction id) that can begin with an equal "=" sign character. The documentation for ISPF in the topic on Using the JUMP function in the ISPF documentation says:

Any field preceded by leader dots (that is, ... or . .). ISPF looks at the three characters preceding the field; they must be either three consecutive dots or two dots separated by a blank.

As these panels meet this criteria the ISPF jump occurs when the equal sign is input into the field. See the topic in the ISPF documentation that is mentioned above for details.

To turn this off, while on the ISPF panel where you want to enter the CICS tranid as an "=" sign, go to the ISPF command line and enter command ISPFVAR JUMP(OFF) and this will allow you to input the CICS transid beginning with an equal sign character. See topic ISPFVAR for details on using ISPFVAR to set JUMP off.
