How do I quiesce a TN3270 port?

Question & Answer

Question

What command is available to quiesce a TN3270 port?

Answer

Use the VARY QUIESCE command to remove the listener from the Telnet socket. This causes the specified port to not accept any new Telnet client connections. Currently established connections continue to be serviced. Here is the VARY QUIESCE command to be used:

VARY TCPIP,,TELNET,QUIESCE,PORT=nnn

Successful execution of this command results in this message:

EZZ6003I TN3270E QUIESCED ON PORT nnn

To resume new connection acceptance, issue this command:

VARY TCPIP,,TELNET,RESUME,PORT=nnn

Successful execution of this command will result in issuance of this message:

EZZ6003I TN3270E RESUMED ON PORT nnn
