Question & Answer
Question
I am studying how workload management (WLM) records the task volumes if this task is DPLed in many application owning regions (AORs). I found if it runs in same CICSplex, there will be only one service class identified in our CICS Performance Analyzer for z/OS (CICS PA) report. All mirrors with the same network UOWID are included for the begin-to-end (BTE) phase. If one or more of the DPLs is to an AOR in a different CICSplex, the DPL mirror is classified in WLM with a new service class and report class even though it is for the same UOW.
I am running z/OS V1.13 and CICS Transaction Server for z/OS (CICS TS) V5.2.
Answer
CICS passes the WLM service class token from the originating task in the FMH5 attach over MRO and IPIC connections. It does not pass the service class when going over a VTAM LU62 link.
The CICS TS V5.2 documentation topic Defining classification rules for your CICS workload will be updated to add an additional note as follows:
The WLM service class token is not supported over a z/OS Communications Server LU62 link because there is only one set of rules for the sysplex. LU62 links can be outside the z/OS SYSPLEX and WLM could not access the information.
