CICS TS 5.4 downward compatibility with older releases of CICS Tools

Question & Answer

Question

Is CICS Transaction Server for z/OS (CICS TS) V5.4 downward compatible with older versions of CICS Tools? I am upgrading to CICS TS V5.4 and would also like to know if after upgrading I can continue to run with the older versions of the CICS Tools like version 5.3 of CICS Performance Analyzer for z/OS (CICS PA), CICS Configuration Manager for z/OS (CICS CM), and CICS Interdependency Analyzer for z/OS (CICS IA)?

Answer

The following are posts for specific CICS tools, but you should review the Detailed System Requirements (DSR) for CICS TS V5.4, also known as the Software Product Compatibility Report, to determine the supported operating system requirements, hardware requirements, and software requirements for CICS TS V5.4. You will find the CICS Tools and many other products in the "Supported Software" tab. Along with the minimum version(s) of each product, you will find any required actions in the "Notes" and "Details including APARs you must apply.

IBM CICS Support also flags content that has to do with upgrading when they create content as a result of working through problems with customers. Take a look at Upgrading information for CICS when changing releases of CICS, z/OS, DB2 or IMS to view this content. This is likely to include things like vendor fixes and common setup errors.

Also review the Planning to upgrade section in the CICS TS V5.4 documentation for more information including a link for vendor software products for z/OS.

If installing any other version of CICS TS, see Detailed System Requirements for CICS TS for links to the DSRs for all supported versions of CICS.
