Able to signon with invalid password when using CA Top Secret after upgrading CICS

Question & Answer

Question

Why am I able to signon with an invalid password when using CA Top Secret from CA Technologies as my security manager? I am upgrading from CICS Transaction Server for z/OS (CICS TS) V4.2 to CICS TS V5.3, and we use Top Secret V16 as our external security manager. In CICS TS V4.2, when signing on using transaction CESN a correct password is required. However, after upgrading a region to CICS TS V5.3, a password is required when signing on using CESN, but a user can enter any characters in the password field and successfully logon to CICS.

Answer

CA Technologies ENF must be updated with the upgraded CICS version number. You must add the internal version number of the CICS region to the CICSREL parameter. The internal version number for CICS V5.3 is 7.0 and V4.2 is 6.7, so the parm is now CICSREL(67,70). This causes ENF to load the modules at initialization to interface with the CICS regions installed. The parameter changes are non-dynamic and require an IPL.
