What are the benefits of sysplex subplexing?

Question & Answer

Question

Why would we want to create a sysplex subplex and what benefits would we would see by creating a subplex?

Answer

The reason for the introduction of SUBPLEXing is to restrict use of Sysplex functions in a Sysplex connected to multiple security areas. In other words, it is introduced for security rather than performance reasons.

A networking SUBPLEX is a subset of VTAM nodes or TCP stacks in the Sysplex:

  • All the members of the subset can establish dynamic connectivity through the Sysplex with other members of the subset.

  • Members of the subset cannot establish dynamic connectivity through the Sysplex with non-members of the subset.
